Kitchen magic

Thursday, September 13th, 2012

I love kitchen gadgets almost more than I love taking pictures.  It’s my second passion I suppose you could say.  To me it’s a hobby.  It’s not uncommon for me to come home from a shopping trip with a new gadget in tow – to my husband’s amazement and sometimes frustration (at having more ‘stuff’  in the house that has to have a place found for it.)  It’s all about creating Kitchen Magic in my own kitchen at home.

Nevertheless, I’ll always find a place in my life for the things that make me go, Aha, I could really use that!  That’s Kitchen Magic.  And as far as those things that I already have …  There’s the ice shaver for making awesome snow cones.  Or, there’s the various cake decorating gadgets that I love too.

To me, it’s a never ending pursuit – to find things that turn my crank and somehow make life more interesting, fun and easy …  or so I hope.

Day314

Dinner last night

Sunday, July 22nd, 2012

I was so lazy to make dinner last night so I went to the grocery store and bought whole BBQ chicken and scalloped potatoes plus garlic bread. While I was there at the store I ran into my co-worker who happens to buy a BBQ chicken. We didn’t see very many chicken there. I guess everyone was lazy to cook dinner last night. Well I was glad that was still chicken left for us. LOL

cooking lesson

Sunday, July 15th, 2012

My daughter’s cooking lesson was just over a week ago or so. She always gets excited and so happy to show me what they make that day. I might enroll her for another cooking lesson since its summer vacation. There is a grocery store near us and they offer cooking lesson for kids.

Amwares

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

We don’t always have the means to buy what we want in life.  There are things that we simply must forgo in favour of other necessities.  Kids learn this lesson fairly soon after they first begin begging for Mommy for random items in the grocery check-out line.  But we parents also need to keep our needs above our wants at times too.

The trick is in figuring out what exactly are our needs and what are wants are – and sticking to our guns when the pressures increase.  At the same time, different people’s needs and wants are not necessarily always going to be the same.  We might think we know what other’s needs are, but that it’s not always true.  I can think of a number of things that I consider absolute necessities that another person might consider absolutely useless.  You might have a look around at any company page to see that a company has as many needs as there are employees to see that that’s true.

One example in our family has to do with health and household environment.  We are a family that is intensely interested in natural food, water and air.  Again, some of this might be foolish to others, but to us, it’s a matter of life.  Only the best quality or those three things above can make a real difference in our personal health for the short and long term (although the long term health consequences are probably more heavily involved).

Of the three things listed above, air might be the most neglected in general.  People seem to have become more aware of the choices available in food – such as organic produce.  And I’ve noticed that there are many others who are getting their water supplied from water purifier stores or from in-home water purifiers.  But for some reason, air purifiers seem to be the last thing considered.

For us, it’s a matter of concern what is floating around in the interior air of our house.  Everybody knows that dust particles are dead skin cells for example.  But that’s just a portion of what might be lurking in our air.  And vacuuming usually doesn’t even touch the tiniest particles floating through the air, much less the most dangerous contaminants.

I mentioned at the beginning that we can’t always get the things we want.  And that we have to make careful choices along the lines of our needs and wants.  And one of the top needs for us is clean air that we can only be assured of by using an effective air purifier.

Playdough

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

My daughter made this playdough a week ago or so. Hubby and my daughter went to the store to get some the recipe that I don’t have in hand. Anyway it turned out okay but I forgot to take pictures and now she throws it away because it was slimy and stacked everywhere according to her. Oh well maybe she needs to do it again. There’s lot of recipes online that she can try.

Playdough Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
1 Tablespoon oil
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
Food coloring by drops

Directions:

1. Combine all ingredients in a pan and stir.  Cook over low heat, stirring until a ball forms.

2. Add food coloring and mix thoroughly until desired color.

3. Cool on foil. Store in covered container.
