picnic table

We enjoyed a fun family vacation a couple of weeks ago when we spent four days and three nights in a campground in Niagara Falls.  It was the first camping trip for us as a family.  It was somewhat of a challenge managing a two-year-old around a campsite and such.  But overall, it was a good time for everyone.

We set up on a site that included a redwood picnic table that served as our cooking surface, dining table, and general storage surface.  It was just what you’d expect to see at almost every campsite across America around this time of year.  We were very blessed to be able to enjoy our vacation outdoors like we did and hope to do it again very soon.

compost

We are facing the imminent arrival of our new city issued compost bin along with two other waste bins our city moves to a new bag-less waste management system.  Other cities around us have been using these plastic waste containers for years already, and so it’s a bit ironic that a city such as ours that has traditionally prided itself on its forward thinking and green consciousness is only now adopting this.  But better late than never I suppose.

It’s going to take a bit of getting used to – learning what garbage goes in which container and how and where to store these new bins.  But we are at least used to sorting our garbage into 3 streams of wet, dry recyclables and general waste already at this point.  So that should take some of the pain out of adapting to the new system.

compost tumbler

Gardening is over for me now. Its fall and I’m really hoping that I can plant some bulbs so that I will have some beautiful spring flowers next year. I still have to clean the garden though before I can plant something. I wish that I have compost tumbler in my garden but unfortunately I don’t have one. I remember we had one at the old house where we used to live. It was already there when we bought the house.
